When you meet for the first time with your therapist, she/he will take specific measures to pinpoint exactly what needs to be addressed. This evaluation usually lasts about an hour. She/he will work with you to understand your priorities, and to tailor a plan that best suits your needs.
How frequently one is treated often depends upon what is being addressed, and how quickly results are desired.
